Working alongside experienced colleagues and an appointed mentor, the apprentice will gain practical workplace experience while contributing to the delivery of a high-quality service to customers.

Planning and Organising

  • Attend college sessions, workshops and apprenticeship reviews as required
  • Complete assignments, portfolio evidence and assessments within agreed timescales
  • Prepare work areas, materials, tools and equipment safely
  • Develop productivity, quality and workmanship skills under appropriate supervision

Plastering Work

  • Work alongside an appointed mentor to develop practical plastering, repair, preparation and finishing skills
  • Assist with removing damaged plaster, preparing surfaces and carrying out patch repairs
  • Develop skills in installing plasterboard systems, including wall and ceiling boarding and dot and dab
  • Learn how insulation materials are installed during repair and maintenance works
  • Develop skills in skimming, rendering and other plastering techniques
  • Use plastering tools, materials and equipment safely and effectively

Learning and Development

  • Develop knowledge, skills and behaviours in line with the apprenticeship standard
  • Participate in training, coaching and development opportunities
  • Seek guidance and feedback from mentors, supervisors and training providers
  • Gain experience across different areas of Cobalt to understand social housing and customer service
  • Develop confidence using Cobalt’s systems, technology and equipment

Communication and Customer Service

  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with customers, colleagues and training providers
  • Deliver excellent customer service and contribute to a positive customer experience
  • Attend meetings and reviews to discuss progress and development
  • Respond positively to feedback and build effective working relationships

Health, Safety and Wellbeing

  • Follow risk assessments, method statements, policies and procedures
  • Wear appropriate PPE and use tools, equipment and materials safely
  • Take responsibility for personal health and safety and report any concerns
  • Seek guidance when undertaking unfamiliar tasks and develop increasing responsibility as skills progress
  • One study day each week during active college terms

You’ll learn from experienced tradespeople, gain hands-on experience in our customers’ homes and work towards a recognised apprenticeship qualification.
